Dean would have enabled Bush to take some of the center. True, most Bust voters are idiots and zealots. But there's a group in the center who are clueless. Anyone undecided at this point in the race doesn't read or write on a regular basis.

I heard an interesting pollster being interviewed on PBS a few weeks ago. He said that many people say they are undecided to pollsters--but they are not. Seriously, only a small group is undecided. He said it was women ages 18-26 without college degrees. Most are married and have children. They don't care about health care or education issues. The only thing they really care about is that they don't have enough free time. They number about 500,000.

The undecided voters have to be wooed by smooth charm right now. They can't be scared away. Kerry is the patient, fatherly kind of character who can woo the undecided voter--such as they even exist.

This whole election is being fought for those 100,000 voters in Ohio, Missouri, Florida, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, and Wisconsin who are undecided. I've replaced Pennsylvania with Nevada on my watch list. Bush is now toast in Pennsylvania. Virginia's working its way onto my watch list.
