So why did you say:

That clearly conveys that your objection to the incivility is a function of the party being a veteran. Otherwise you would have said simply "there is NO excuse for people to behave so uncivilly." Or "there is NO excuse for people to behave so uncivilly towards him." You added "toward any Veteran" for some reason. If it's not because treating a veteran that way is extra offensive to you, what could it be? Had you said "towards a man" or "towards a Texan
or "towards a left-handed person," any reader would find significance in the otherwise extraneous words.
