The Quiet American by Graham Greene Another fictional account of an American who distorted and misrepresented his tour in Vietnam, causing William Lederer to write another account of that war called The Ugly American. The Quiet American is a fictional story of an American in Vietnam who was in over his head and didn't quite know what to do about it. But he stayed in Vietnam for more than four months and finally accomplished his mission. The Ugly American is an account of the atrocities in which Kerry admits that he participated. So you personally think that too much fuss has been made of Kerry's military decorations? Well, so do most of the American public. That's why they are now ridiculing Kerry's continuing Democratic National Convention refrain: "I am John Kerry, reporting for duty." and again: I fought for my country once and I am prepared to fight for it again." and again: I have three purple hearts. . ." Yea, sure, John. And how did you arrange to get them. And how do they qualify you to be the next Commander-in Chief?
