When it first came out, I went to the Swifties website. One of the things I noticed was that the vast majority of those speaking against Kerry had little or no first hand knowledge of the actual events. Many seemed to be 'jumping on the bandwagon', mentioning Kerry's post tour protest as their main grievance.

A couple of exceptions were some of the officers in Kerry's direct command/peer boat captains, and the one crewmember who criticized him (Steve Gardner). The Gardner story seems to be about a guy who had a loose trigger, was threatened with charges by Kerry, and who has been grinding an axe.

I've followed the story, the contraditions, the numerous websites that are attempting to pin something on Kerry. The fairest one I've seen is the Fact Check site, a non-partisan site that has criticized untruths by both Bush's camp and Kerry's camp:

factcheck.org

These investigations are showing what common sense dictates. Both the Navy and the direct crewmembers unanimously praise Kerry. The dissidents are all bitter about Kerry's antiwar stance. Rather than simply coming out and saying, "We dislike Kerry because of his post-tour protests", they are trying to morph that into bogus charges that degrade all vets, and dishonor those who have served. Heavy irony when mixed with the fact that they are trying to protect a guy who's admitted to sidestepping service in Vietnam.
