One would think...if Kerry's accounts of his activity were really accurate...he would have come out swinging....on the other hand...I know many veterans who want nothing more than to avoid any conversaiton about their wartime service....although Kerry seems not to be in that mold given his repeated references to his service in Vietnam.......

My bottom line take on the issue is that when all is said and done...Kerry did honorably volunteer and serve in combat although he probably did exaggerate his exploits and "game the system" as far as his decorations for meritorious service with a view to his planned future in politics......ultimately, his service was at the very least honorable and deserving of praise.....the debate over alleged heroics can probably never be settled for certain after the passage of 40 years....

Kerry's statements on Cambodia and using fictitious accounts of his alleged time in Cambodia to attack Reagan on the Senate floor however, brings into question a much more serious issue concerning his personal integrity...

Overall, I think its a negative....the question is how much it will play into the campaign....the Bush team seems to be staying well away from the story....
