i think you missed the mark with your argument.

the central issue is whether one is paying to enjoy musical entertainment or to see a "performance" put on by an artist.

If I paid $50 bucks to see Les Miserables, and the cast spent the first 20 minutes pontificating about the Israeli Palestinian conflict, I'd be pretty ticked off. Much less so if the person or show in question is known to have a political agenda. Even then, however, it's a slippery slope (how much time is ok to spend on personal views vs the rest of the show?). Ever the absolutist, JP steers clear of the slippery slope altogether.
