Not to disparage your service, but most folks would consider you WWII-era or post WWII because you enlisted after VE and VJ days - the days when celebrations began and everyone considered the war over. Legally, of course you are a WWII vet and I have no problem with that... congress needed soldiers after VE and VJ days and you answered the call.

However, technicalities being what they are, it gets interesting. Being in the military during the Viet Nam war doesn't mean one is a Viet Nam war vet - one isn't considered a Viet Nam vet unless one actually served in the theatre of operations... although I guess congress could declare everyone in military service from time A to time B a Viet Nam for benefit purposes.

Korea? Technically the war never ended, it's halted via truce - whatever that means. So is everyone who served from 1950 to the present time a Korean war vet? But then again, Viet Nam and Korea were undeclared wars, so...???

You have clearly explained that legally you are a WWII vet, and that's fine by me - I'm not posting again on the subject - but surely you must admit that there exists a legitimate basis for folks drawing a mental distinction between those in the military before VE & VJ days and those who joined afterwards?
