I think you both have taken your views to extremes.

For JP to say that ad hoc personally commentary is not permitted during a performance is silly (as long as it doesn't interfere with the show content). Unless the show was contracted and specifically scripted by the producers to exclude any such commentary, it is well within the bounds of artistic freedom of expression to dedicate a song to whomever or whatever for any reason. Whether or not you like that reason is up to you.

However, to say that the artist has no obligation to deliver a performance product that is within the specs of what was advertised (and therefore expected) is an equally flawed position, imho. This what I interpreted you're comment below to mean:

"The artist is the artist. They are responsible for the content of the performance. You are responsible for whether or not you go."
