It all depends upon who Hugo was before he encouraged his audience. If after a lifetime of writing about the possibility of change and human redemption he advertises a speech on these subjects, only to then argue exactly for exactly the opposite view, he has done wrong by you. He sold you one brand, but gave you another.

The artists is not the artist. He is a businessman just like everyone else.
