Anyone who watched Kerry's powerful and personally-felt speech at the VFW today will be convinced that this is a man who not only fully understands the needs and feelings of the US military on the deepest level, but who is ready to lead us on a stronger, smarter course of action against terrorism and much smarter course vis a vis diplomacy and building critical alliances. As Tommy Franks said the other day, you cannot understand war unless you have been there.

As we saw last week, the arrests of Al Qaida leaders is rarely possible in the US or any area we control, but is most often the result of close-knit cooperation with allies, both European and all others. When our leaders break away from allies, and particular when they are seen as untrustworthy or overly unilateral, it turns off and embitters many potential allies. That mneans AL Qaida suspects may get away.

Bush would know this is he had traveled much in his life, but he is a stubborn, stay at home guy. In fact prior to being president he had rarely traveled in the world at all, unlike his father who was a great statesmen and knew how to do diplomacy, build coalitions and work well with others. One of GW's biggest mistakes was not taking his father's advice. The "higher father" whom he claims to seek guidance from obviously didn't give him the right advice.
