Yes, I know Iraq was a creation of the British post WWI. They wanted something to give to the Hashemite family as a kingdom so pieced together three provinces of the Ottoman empire as a new country. Would have made more sense to make each one a country - one could have been a homeland for Kurds, Assyrian Christians, Turkomans, another for Sunni Muslims, and another for Shiites.

However, most countries in the world have their origin in something similar. Iraq is not unique.
