Kerry is a liberal senator from Massachusetts that cannot get elected.
Perhaps that was true in 1988, but times are a changing. States that were once solidly Republican even in 1988, like CA, NJ, CT, and VT, are now in the Dem column. Zogby just put four states that were suppossed to be safe for Bush in the battleground category: AZ, CO, NC, and VA. Perhaps Kerry won't win any of those state, but it demonstrates a weakness on the part of Bush's base of support.
Regarding using alternative fuels for autos. If you bothered to read the article, you would have realized that you don't need to comprimise size, power and/or comfort to greatly reduce our dependence on foreign oil. Hybrids have certainly proven this point. The fact is that there is a different path we can follow than the one laid out by Bush, a path of militarism that relies on using century old technology to deliver our energy needs. We can embrace the emerging energy technologies of the 21st Century, lessen our dependence on foreign oil, increase our security, and create American jobs in the process. This election is about pursuing the old policies that have gotten us into our current mess, or pursuing new policies that might actually solve some of our problems for a change. |
