In local news a hospital announced that it was laying off hundreds of licensed practical nurses. The newspaper reporting this said that one reason for the economy measure was because there were so many deadbeat patients. The following day, the newspaper and the hospital BOTH fell all over themselves disavowing this "insensitive" statement.

Neither, however, denied the essential fact that some people pay and some don't. Apparently, it simply isn't acceptable to label those who don't pay as deadbeats.
