"I like Americans, I just wish their government was on a different planet, so the rest of us could live peacefully". I'm sure this is very widely held opinion. It's called "shooting the messenger". If guys like your cabbie think an absense of American power would lead to their increased peace and prosperity, I suggest they go talk to some old-timers who recall the 30s and 40s.
