The turnaround in the poll numbers for the veterans is amazing. The SwiftVet story has significantly hurt Kerry's campaign. I suspect that Kerry's internal polling numbers reflect the same erosion, which explains why Kerry felt compelled to personally address the issue today. I think that there is another wave of bad news for Kerry on this front. I have always felt that the real issue for the SwiftVets is not so much the medals, but Kerry's behavior after he returned from Vietnam. The Winter Soldiers hearings in Detroit, the meetings that he had with North Vietnamese and Viet Cong representatives in Paris, and his Senate testimony. To me, those are the real issues. Whether or not he gamed the system for his medals is of minimal concern to me. His behavior upon his return is what really matters. I suspect that there will be a second wave of ads addressing those issues.
