Duke: Right after Blackmore's exit, hp announced several improvements to their larger operating systems.
It could be that Blackmore directed that HP drag it's feet on the improvements, with the thought that this would force more of a transition to IA64. But it may be that this "computer glicth with sap" may have been an old guard delay to supply him with new qoutes for the sale, giving Dell a free ride.
Meantime the "old guard" goes running to carly saying look how Blackmore screwed up!!! by pushing IA before it is ready and simultaneouly bombarding Carly and the board with the same studies that were just release showing how customers just loved the old stuff and did not want to switch, and how unix is GROWING!!!.
This is my imagination only, but it sure fits. And if Carly fell for this she should not have.
CRN, the Webzine for the channel has some interesting articles hinting that their members might go with Dell. This might be a negotiating tack to keep out IA64. Their is a huge conflict of interest here. The transition to IA 64 is the beggining of the end for big fees by the channel, so Blackmore had a major problem to deal with. I have heard that Blackmore was put in place by Capellas, and I think you told me that right before Capellas was "let go" he gave a big presentation to the new board on Eliminating the channel, altogether.
But this is just total musings on my part I have no real knowledge of the issues. |
