Emile - I do not share your faith in their "successors"

I believe the verse teaches what it teaches - scripture does not mean
what each and every private individual concludes it means.

I do not take it beyond that to mean God ordained a particular
church line to always hold infallible powers of interpretation and doctrine.

I would side with Greg at this point and say that
such a hope is not supported by history.

Even as Luther said of the Roman Catholic tradition

'popes have often contradicted one another"

I think you and most take the verse to support the "authority" of your churches
even over the proper use of what God has granted you in the
area of logical and a careful spiritual discerning of the Word of God Alone.

I think churches and history can help - but the serpent on
the pole had to go...

I once believed what you believe - I found out the hard way
that such a theory cannot be maintained in the "light of reality"

Is your church doctrine without error and do they know the
intended meaning of every verse of scripture as it was delivered?

I knew you would agree :-)

Your brother - Brian
