Taiwan LCOS-panel maker TMDC breaks ground at second plant Original date: 2004/8/20 Translator: Carrie Yu Taiwan Micro Display Corporation (TMDC) held its Fab 1 ground-breaking ceremony at the Chunan site of the Hsinchu Science Park (HSP) on August 18. Company chairman Ling-Yuan Tseng said the company plans to start producing LCOS (liquid-crystal-on-silicon) microdisplay panels for rear-projection TVs (RPTVs) in the first quarter of 2006. TMDC will finish plant construction in the third quarter of next year and expects the plant to have three times the capacity of its first fab, which began volume production last May. The company is basing production in China and North America. It has established a production base in China for light sources and plans to set up a downstream module-plant in Mexico. In a May 27 article last year, the company said it plans to begin construction of a second plant by the end of 2003.
