Daniel, can't compare Ericsson and Qualcomm in the manner you imply
"I'm also wondering why Ericsson always gets beat up for the "all the eggs in 1 basket" argument, but Qualcomm (who only have CDMA) don't take any heat for the same thing....."
QCOM, in all fairness, started off as an R&D company, living off the revenue generated by Omnitracs. Their whole survival is based on the success of CDMA. Ericsson, on the other hand, is a bonafide telecom giant who decided to stick their head in the sand. It would be fair if you compare Ericsson with Nokia, MOT, LU, Nortel etc., all of which decided to cover their bets by going both ways years ago.
Now Ericsson is in a catch up position. The best CDMA brains are here in San Diego and the best field experience is in Korea for now. The best infrastructure experience rests with Nortel and LU. MOT is having a tough time. I really don't think Ericsson can all of a sudden leap frog and be the leader of second generation CDMA.
Maurice, I am just responding on your behalf, assuming you are too busy counting all the money you are making off globalstar.
