A fatal mistake often made by decent folks (who often expect at least a modicum of decency in others) is that if the lies and false allegations are ignored they will go away. Not so.

It seems to me the Bush campaign is applying a smear tactic that Hitler's chief propagandist, Goebbels, had applied with immense success in WWII and that is:-

1. sling enough dirt and some of it will stick......

2. repeat a lie often enough and it will appear like it is true after a while......

3. the bigger the lie, the more likely will it gain credibility!

So, unless the Kerry campaign aggressively mounts a counterattack ASAP to refute/neutralize the lies, a good number of precious "swing" votes will be lost.

Now I don't mean to insult Americans. But it cannot be denied that not a few Americans are

1. very naive;
2. hate thinking for themselves and readily let others do the thinking for them;
3. prone to acting like sheep willing to be guided by a shepherd or trained dogs;
4. prone to mouth off mindlessly the catchy slogans of manipulators.

So, I repeat: unless the Kerry camp mounts an aggressive counterattack ASAP to refute/neutralize the false allegations and lies of the Swift Vets and others, a good number of precious "swing" votes will be lost.
