Oh stop Kenny. All these little fragmented bits and pieces are of no consequence. What is needed is a thorough review of personal military records, unit records, action reports, logs, medical records and of course US Navy records involving the awards of the decorations and the "newly" issued (1986) (new and improved citation accompanying the Siler Star. That is very unusual.

While at it a pet peave of mine and it seems nearly everyone is screwing it up.

Medals are awarded for service during particular times and places. For instance VietNam Campaign VietNam Service Medals.

Decorations are awarded for achievements, acts and of course in the case of the Purple Heart, wounded in combat action.

The terms are not to be exchanged. I am not saying you did it, but just wanted to set it straight.

For instance although using the term "medal" in the name of some decorations is confusing to some. Decorations include Good Conduct Medal (enlisted only) Commendation Medal with or without Combat V, Air Medal, Bronze Star "Navy and Marine Corps Medal (heroism without combat) Silver Star , Navy Cross, Distinguished Flying Cross, Legion of Merit, CMH etc

The Army and Air Force have corresponding awards.
