"forgive me but I am bowing out."

I am sorry to hear that, but even sorrier to see that I have failed to help you to examine the Preterist position from the standpoint of history. I notice you have not even tried to explain how the immediate associates and followers of the apostles such as Polycarp could have been so wrong about such a momentous event as the return of Christ. What you see so clearly was not seen by those who were there at the time. If that alone does not give you pause then nothing else I say will likely matter.

"I just wish you would not be so ready to condemn those who beg to differ.

That's a funny statement from one who regularly does just that. I do not generally go out of my way to be offensive but if identifying Preterism as a heretical position is offensive to you then I am sorry but I must be faithful to God and conscience in doing just that. It's obvious that you do not grasp the gravity of denying the future bodily return of Christ. It is not a little point of doctrinal difference that we can agree to disagree on. If Preterism is to be embraced in the Church as Orthodox then we must accept Mormons and Jehovah Witnesses equally as brothers. Those who deny essential doctrines are free to do so but they are not free to demand other Christians accept them with open arms.

Someone has said

"In essentials we must have unity.

In non-essentials we must have liberty.

In all things we must have Charity."

The matter of the future and bodily return of Christ is an essential. It truly grieves me that we cannot agree on this.

Where I have failed to treat you charitably, I ask your forgiveness.

Greg
