Hey I did not accuse you of hatred - I just pointed out that your approach seemed off the wall without explaining your angle. Your angle is exactly my point to Emile IF indeed the words of Christ to Peter taught that a succession would be included then where was it in the real world. Even the church fathers that men like Greg so fondly quote as authoritative were in so much error at so many points I quit reading them. The theory is that men like Polycarp etc. were hand taught by the apostles themselves and therefore knew the apostolic truth. Just go read what they write - you can not read long before realizing how little they knew of scripture - in fact some Preterists I know use this fact as an argument for the rapture. They "theorize" that this darkness existed because the truly pure were caught up with Christ leaving only the confused and apostate behind - but that is another "theory" The fact is and must logically be that if "succession" was guaranteed then they would have had an organized denomination that generally held to apostolic truth without blatant error. NONE HISTORICALLY EXIST When that is acknowledged then they insist they were a small minority that were obscured from secular and humanist historical report but they did exist - which is assertion based on their presupposition which basically BEGS THE QUESTION Since their presupposition states they were promised by Lord who can not lie - therefore they must have existed unnoticed by the world therefore that proves the existed - utter nonsense and just about the time you quit arguing with them Alan. This I believe is something we all need to learn. WHEN IT IS TIME TO QUIT ARGUING I do not care who you argue with Alan - I just think it is sin if it is not fruitful and done with mutual respect. Alan - how often have you heard people quote the following verse: Luke 6:41 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but perceivest not the beam that is in thine own eye? How often have you heard me quote that verse??? We use it to point out the beam in our brother's eye. How utterly ironic is that? We realize it and I am sure when we quote it - immediately we know that we are NOT without guilt and should really look at ourselves perhaps a little later :-) And so by God's grace we get to a place where we may actually look at ourselves and go beyond yet using the verse to behold the specks of others... Now Alan - let me ask you this - and maybe to you this nothing How many of us can get to "level 3" Level 1 is looking at the faults of others Level 2 is looking at our own faults but level 3 is as follows: Luke 6:42 ....., cast out first the beam out of thine own eye, and then shalt thou see clearly to pull out the mote that is in thy brother’s eye. To actually cast out the beam of your own eye and to go beyond to be able to actually help anyone pull the mote out of their eye There is nothing worse than having a sliver in you eye when you think about it. It is one of those things that teaches us that no man is an island. It is a strong case for corporate worship. You can decide to hate all of humanity and live in the mountains alone but if you get a sliver in your eye - you will need someone to help you. You can not get a sliver out of your eye - especially a steel one. That happened to a friend of mine - if anyone you know ever gets a sliver of steel or iron filing go straight to the doctor it infect and you have to have a big chunk dug out - it is ugly. Anyway - forgive me Alan for mentioning this. What do you think the chance of you and Emile getting anywhere with your debate will be when he is busy accusing you of being a bigot - you are busy accusing him of hatred - will actually be? Can you honestly tell me he is listening to your arguments? I find when I try to corner Emile with a tough question he moves on - end of conversation usually. So what is it everyone is doing here? What fruit is it that is expected? Do not get me wrong - I think Christ teaches us despite the situation and I have learned a lot while posting on this thread but was it "because of" or more "in spite of" what was posted? This verse has haunted me for years: 2 Timothy 2:24 And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient, It is only the Lord that teaches any of us. If a man is not being taught - we will not teach him. If a man is not hearing us - yelling will not help If a man does not respect us - he is to us unreachable If a man is always trying to reach others - when has he time for his own beam ? Brian
