Bob Dole spent a year in hospital and lost the use of one arm. Nobody questions that kind of wound. Bob Dole did not run on his WWII service, but on his record in the Senate.

It's "not exactly" the same position as a Senator who runs on a four month stint in Vietnam, where he collected 3 PHs for wounds too minor to need any hospitalization, and has chosen not to mention his record in the Senate.
