Ed:
In a flurry of posts, you -it seems to me - try to respond to every perceived "enemy" on this thread. Not even Socrates would effectively be able to do so.
<<Bruce, I couldn't resist hoisting you by your own petard>>
With respect, what petard?
As an individual my writing necessarily reflects what I perceive.
In my first post, I described friends of mine who "are now caught in the very emotional sway of..poisonous stuff.." These friends come close to demonizing Bush and, if they don't go that far, when they talk about Bush they are emotional and portray a caricature rather than a man. "Stupid" is almost always used; he is never given credit for acting on honest convictions: he is a religious "nut" or "captive" of billionaires, etc. Ed, this is poisonous stuff, no?
SLAVE TO EMOTIONAL IDEAS?
Bluntly, you have a romantic, "Frank Herbert" type vision of a courageous Iraqi people, united in a jihad against the United States. You speak of a "hive" that has been riled, of people "who bleed and sweat their lives away," of Bush's disdain for the "power and pride" of the average Iraqi people. You stated that if a Fatwa were issued tomorrow to kill Americans and force them from Iraq: "I believe it would be a bloodbath and the number of Shiites that would take up arms would be remarkable."
I believe, Ed, that this is crap; that this is one of those "emotional ideas" that enslave you.
Do you have the courage to debate?
