OK, lets get down to a "micro-level" rather than the "macro level".

As an individual, I was doing good between 1996 & 2003 in the US. Then the "shit hit the fan", and in 2004 I am in Australia, not the US. I am not thinking of stocks/other investment mechanisms. I am thinking employment (or lack thereof).
