these are the same people who advocate commercial clear-cut logging of Yellowstone and other National Parks to reduce the forest fire risk.

I live a half day from Glacier Natl Park and one day from Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks. I have camped and hiked in all three in the past two years (the cover of my book is a picture of me and my wife at Grand Teton). We were in the Yellowstone and Grand Tetons again just last June. We saw the devastating fire damage first hand. Also listened to the Rangers describe the enormous damage to the animal and bird populations and explain that selected clearing, back burning, and selected area harvests were all good potential solutions and they believed a combo of all three would be best, both to preserve the animals, protect most trees and retain the beauty.
Leaving Yellowstone area, we drove to Jackson Hole and then followed the Snake River all the way to Idaho Falls. The fire devastation in the Snake River Canyon was terrible too. Why not control it?
