I'm unaware of anything is as reliable as I previously thought sentiment surveys were.

One possibility might be to add an additional criterion. Wait for extreme bullishness to show up in the sentiment surveys but still don't act until there is some sign of decline. A trouble with this is that you might get out of only 5% of a 10% correction if you were successful, and that might not be worthwhile, especially in a taxable account. It would still get you out before a crash like 1987, though.
