Nah. Should be easy enough to check. And though readmsg is going to get 80% of the use, the times that readmsg is being called by a moderator will be in the minority of overall traffic, so checking to see if someone is banned and displaying a non-link "Banned" if they are, should be easy enough and not result in too much overhead.
