Jim, thanks for that "swiftvets" site.

I sent them this e-mail:

I just wanted you to know that I'm a fellow Vietnam veteran from 6/69 to 6/70. I served with the 1st air cav div as a grunt. I was wounded three times with two purple hearts, I was an enlisted man, I was decorated for valor several times, including with a silver star, and I respect the fact that all of you served in a combat zone, and most of you saw combat.

Having said that, I also wanted you to know that it's my opinion that what you're doing to Kerry is absolutely despicable. You know as well as I do that in combat you're going to get a lot of "gossip" from those that weren't there when it happened or who saw it differently in the heat of battle. Who cares whether Kerry was hit hard or just hit; that's the difference of an inch or so and no one can control that piece of good or bad luck. Who cares whether remfs can find some way of questioning some little part of what was occurred in combat and then claim someone "lied?"

The men who fought ALONGSIDE Kerry, with the exception of Gardner, are behind him, and they were behind him when he led them in Vietnam. That is, as you should know, the highest compliment a combat officer can get from ANYONE. Their version of the "facts" is consistent with his. Who would know the facts better than them? What makes any one of you think you can make liars of them all?

I no longer consider you one of "us." You've become remfs in my view. And yes, I would say that to your face. Ed xxxx, 1st of the 12th, 1st Air Cav Div, Vietnam, 1969-1970.
