No, Kerry served from August 1966 until March 1970. That's not 4 full years, it's 3 and half. This is public record, not disputed by Kerry or his campaign. You are the only one I know of that disputes these dates. He spent mid-Feb-1968 to early-June-1968 as an ensign in the electrical department on the frigate USS Gridley. The Gridley traveled to several places, including Wellington in New Zealand, Subic Bay in the Philippines, and the Gulf of Tonkin off North Vietnam, where the ship supported aircraft carriers. The ship had no enemy contact during this time, and departed for the U.S. on May 27. Kerry spent from Dec-1968 to Mar-1969 as a Swift Boat commander in combat in Vietnam. So, as I said, the official record states he was on active for three and a half years, and all but 7 and a half months were spent in training or as a "personal aide" to an officer. He spent 4 months total in combat.
