I agree and have said that on numerous occasions. And its not only kerry, its mccaullife too who charged bush was a deserter which is quite a charge. He also insulted duty in the National Guard both then and implication now as well. If the Swiftboaters had come after him anyway (even if kerry hadnt wrapped himself in vietnam) i doubt they would have been this effective. Or they would have waited later if it seemed kerry was about to win.
In any case all i am saying now is:
1. i missed the veterans constituency particularly vietnam vets who are angered by what kerry did post war and have just remmeber what he did do then.
2. The big tent republican party is coming to NY and the swiftboaters should tone things down for bushes benefit.
3. Left wing protesters may do more to help bush now.

Conclusion is that swiftboaters did as much as they could for bush already. I still dont buy their story as the only accurate version of what happened re: medals. I dont dismiss all of kerrys story before congress as falsehoods. Vietnam was an horrific war. We know our enemies committed atrociites. It is naive to think that there were not more mai lais type situations, albeit on a smaller level. I am trying to be real about all this. McCain and Kerry put vietnam into the bed of history and one side effect of the swiftboaters was to bring it out again with all its warts. And for that we have kerry and terry to blame assuming the swiftboaters wouldnt have come out of the closet if kerry hadnt made this issue central to his campaign. mike
