What you are describing is exactly the reason the electoral college was constructed. It is exactly to avoid the people of smalltown USA being oppressed by the elite of the cities as well as the depraved that also reside there. Why should New York and California decide much of how the people should live in the rest of the country. The % of difference between an electoral vote and popular vote can never be large enough to allow the over populated cities to rule the entire country. You are attempting a states rights argument. The states elect the president. If popular vote became the law, then soon you would see states leave the union. States Rights are the heart of the Union or at least what is left of it. Disolve the rest and you disolve the union.
