Mike, From the mid 70s to 81 I had to travel to NYC on business, and found almost all of the people to be bitter, obnoxious, and rude, to everyone around them. Not to mention the absence of the English language. The streets were filthy, the pan handlers were antagonistic, the cabbies didn't know where they were going, and people on the street would accost others for no reason at all. There was a gyp joint around every corner, and this was in Manhattan where people were supposed to have a little bit of sophistication. I wouldn't go back even if someone offered me a paid trip with all the trimmings. Just like LA, NYC ain't no place for a country boy.
You must know some socialists that are quite different from the ones I have known. They had their hand out, and wanted the federal government to pay for their lives from the cradle, to the grave. That's as bad as being a beggar.
Some of the people, in any group, will appreciate sports and the arts. That is a personal thing, and has nothing to do with political leanings.
BTW, who is UW? |
