"Sometimes, I wonder what would happen if America and South Korea turned the tables on North Korea with regard to brinkmanship"

Who knows? What I do know of how N. Korea operates internally scares the dickens out of me. My wife and I stayed with some people in East Berlin after the wall came down. The husband was high in the old Ministry of Science and Technology when there still was an East Germany. he had a lot of dealings with the North Korean government. Given what he was saying was true, and I have no particular reason to doubt it, North Korea is more of a theocracy than anything else. And the Glorious Leader(or what ever his title is) is God incarnate. People have shrines in their home to this person. If he orders something, people will be falling all over themselves to carry it out. If they don't survive, their deity will see that they get properly rewarded in the afterlife. The most fanatic Muslim suicide bomber don't have a patch on the North Koreans. Neither Kim(Jong-il or Il-sung) would have any compunction about having bunches of their people slaughtered to make even the smallest point...
