If the republicans try to make hay out of Kerry's anti-war activities, I think the best response would be no response, but rather to come out with a new commercial.

The camera would start at the north end of the Vietnam War Memorial, and slowly pan over it until it reaches the south end. Preferably during the day when veterans leave their little tributes propped up against it. This scene would take about twenty five seconds, to give the audience a feeling for the enormity of it.

No sound at all, until the very end, when Kerry says "I fought in this war, and then I fought to keep this wall from being even longer. And I approved this message."

In my six years working in DC, and taking visitors to see the monuments, the Wall never failed to impress upon people the horrors of war.
