In 1994, Bush told the Houston Chronicle, in relation to his joining the National Guard, "I was not prepared to shoot my eardrum out with a shotgun in order to get a deferment, nor was I willing to go to Canada, so I chose to better myself by learning how to fly airplanes." He doesn't pretend to be a war hero.

So what? A lot of people didn't want to go. A lot of people were against the war. I helped people avoid the draft, and nobody I knew well personally at the time actually went there.

So you can kick about Bush's service or lack thereof all you want, it won't stick. He doesn't really give a damn about his service, and I don't either.

If he tried to pump himself up, that would worry me.
