After it became known to the Vietnamese that there were massive protests against the war, they exploited the protests to the hilt not only at the prison camps but also at the bargaining table in Paris.

I heard unconfirmed reports that the POWs were treated better after the protests became known to their captors. I believe this was because the Vietnamese wanted the POWs to be sort of "cooperative" in TV interviews they could use for anti-US propaganda purposes. Ditto for signed confessions.

As most of the US soldiers were young impressionable folks a fair number of them denounced the war.

BTW, as most of those soldiers have had enjoyed the good and cushy life back home at a time which was still very much the Love-is-in-the-air-&-Free-Love-Hippie era, many of them were peaceniks or reluctant fighters. Remember seeing the ubiquitous peace signs of the hippies in the 1960s and 1970s?

Often at night, enemy Vietnamese propagandists blared out loud (siren sweet) messages from megaphones and public address systems across the frontlines and around US troops encampments inviting and coaxing the reluctant fighters to quit fighting in a war their compatriots in the US did not want anyway.

Many of the voters today were born about 30-40 years ago and they grew up knowing little or nothing about the war and so they are very susceptible to the lies and innuendos served up by the Bush campaign. Worse, I notice that lots of pro-Bush posters here see things only in black and white and so they mindlessly parrot the lies-laden mantras of the Smear Vets and their ilk.

So how is this election going to end? If Bush wins again, I won't be surprised. Isn't it true that in a democracy, it is the privilege of the majority to be wrong? <LOL!>
