LB, It has been a long road from Q to curmudgeon to here. I've enjoyed it.
I also know I am making a mistake, at least for me. I realized yesterday while screwing with m9 that I am beginning to personalize this war against Muslim militant extremists and John Kerry. And while I still see Kerry and the terrorist problem as different but similar and related, I prefer maintaining an arms length.
I joked with m9 often...but the world situation is not a joke to me. m9 lives his life in the Bronx and NJ and believes he understands the world. He will learn. But I do not need to waste my time telling him that.
I have maintained a personal arms length from war whenever I could since I enlisted on 28 Feb 62. I am losing that and need to re-establish it.
I am concerned about America and I am concerned about our active duty military personnel. I am also concerned about The Montagnard refugees who recently escaped to Phnom Penh who apparently are not cleared for entry to the US as I was told. I believe I can help them get here. The Montagnards have sons in Afghan and Iraq in US Forces They deserve to come here. I am certain I can help, but I have done little but monitor the situation.
I attended a little church in N Idaho on Sunday. It was mostly old folks...and a few younger families. They want to help the troops and were discussing what to do. They were trying to figure it out. I said nothing then...but I heard the call. I know I can help them...But I have yet to tell them that.
I am going to spend less time on politics and go back to supporting the troops and our proven allies in more direct ways. I'd rather send an American soldier a roll of American toilet paper than argue nonsense with m9 on the internet.
And like all SFers, I would much prefer to be known by what I do than what I say.
I believe John Kerry and his staff are prepared, either figuratively or literally, to spit on our returning troops again. I'd like to organize local folks to welcome our troops home...and bust a spitting lip if it becomes necessary. At least I can show the new guys how to do it. I do have experience gained at SeaTac.
I'm moving into troop support mode. I'll continue to follow the thread. LB hang in there. If I can ever support you in any way, I would be honored if you would ask.And I promise no NOs from me.
Somebody pointed out to me recently that I am always easy to find, just google, Mike Linnane special forces, or if you prefer, e-mail my back channel...D3735L@yahoo.com
