| The primary fact is that most Arab countries, including some of our "friends", permit and even subsidize propaganda against Israel and the United States, in newspapers, on television, and in other venues. If they do not promote it themselves, they allow it as a scapegoating distraction among opposition groups. Some of the anti- semitic material, which I have posted links to, in the past, through the Anti- Defamation League web site, resembles strikingly that promoted by Germany in the '30s. Similarly, Arab countries circulate copies of "Mein Kampf" and more "respectable" works, like those of Holocaust deniers, while also promoting authors like Noam Chomsky and Franz Fanon, and their theories about neo- colonialism. With the growth of militant Islam, some of these ideas are being more widely circulated within the Muslim world, so that it is no accident that the Malaysian president should be an anti- semite without Jews in his territory---- according to him, Jews dominate the world through the United States. This is the farrago of nonsense that is currently being spewed by the radical opposition to the war in Iraq and its constant bilge about Jewish neoconservatives hijacking policy to foment a war that serves Israeli interests, rather than the interests of the United States. The neo- isolationist Right, such as Buchanan and Raimondo, has its own version of this. Thus, anti- Americanism has, in the Muslim world, become an extension of anti- semitism......... |
