DBC:"Ascend Communications rose 1 3/8 to 48 1/4 on volume of 2.2 million shares after PC Week magazine reported that the networking giant is one of several industry takeover targets being considered by Lucent Technologies. Fore Systems added 1/4 to 19 5/8 on volume of 823,000 shares, Shiva 11/16 to 13, Cabletron Systems 1/8 to 31 11/16, and Digital Equipment 1/4 to 45 1/2 after PC Week cited those companies as the other Lucent acquisition possibilities.
