An answer to Brit Hume's question is intimated in today's RasmussenReport.

In Florida, the latest Rasmussen Poll conducted on August 24 indicates the following:

Bush 49%
Kerry 47%

In the same poll a month ago, Bush was at 45% while Kerry was at 47%.

Since then, the Swift Boat ads have been broadcast regularly in Florida and in Ohio and West Virgnia

While Kerry has managed to hold his own at 47%, Bush has picked up 4%, rising from 45% to 49%.

Of course, there was the hurricane and Bush's response to it.

But the telling hurricane, in my opinion, is the impact of the Swift Boat for Truth campaign on the perceptions of the public.
