This whole flap over Kerry and his war experience is boring more than anything else.

But one thing particularly amuses me.

Cleland was quoted as saying "The question is, where is George Bush's honor? ... To attack a fellow veteran who has distinguished himself ... in combat, regardless of the political combat involved, is disgraceful."

Uh, somebody clarify this for me. Isn't attacking fellow veterans who had distinguished themslves in combat exactly, precisely what Kerry did himself in his testimony before Congress?

Can anybody explain this: why is it okay for Kerry to have done this to hundreds or thousands of vets but not right for a group of vets to do it to Kerry?

As far as I know, Kerry has never apologized for, disavowed, or withdrawn that that testimony. He could take the moral high road by coming out publicly and saying some thing like "I was wrong to impugn the honesty and integrity of these veterans. I withdraw and apologize for that testimony. And now that I have done the right thing by my fellow veterans, I ask the SwiftBoat veterans to do the same thing and withdraw and apologize for their attacks on a fellow veteran."

But as long as Kerry's quite strong condemnation of fellow veterans remains on the record, what right does he have to complain when his own tactics are turned around on him?
