As usual, reality is mirrored in jokes. The following, I believe, is a true story (I was a kid when I heard my dad talking about it while reading the newspapers):

A ranger sat on the porch of his home (in a national park or national forest, it doesn't matter which) when a station wagon full of kids and two adults pulled up in front. The station wagon disgorged its passengers, who marched past the ranger into his front door. The ranger was too flabbergasted to protest and merely waited for the family to come out. After a few minutes, the thundering herd came out, and the lady marched up toe to toe with the ranger. "Your bathroom towels are filthy!" she said. "I'm going to file a complaint."
