This is as it has always been and will always be so long as the strong nations behave as such. If you want the move towards a more civilized global village, then the change has to come from the strong nations. It makes no sense at all to preach "constraint" and "law" to weaker nations while at the same time preserving the right to preemptive attack and calling everyone else irrelevant so long as you can just go ahead and do as you please.

The day that a world court and NUN resolve international disputes in fair and impartial ways and mutual economic ties and/or an international force enforces them, is the beginning of the process that will promote the civilized world you seek. Until then, Redfish is right.

PS I find all this discussion about Israel's survival very misguided. Either Israel should join US as the 51st state and abide by rules, or else US should only care about Israel's survival so long as it is in US interests (interests that must be clearly spelled out, IMO). To implicitly assume Israel's survival should be a US goal regardless of its costs makes no sense at all.

PPS, I'll be heading to Kiwiland and Oz for a few weeks, so in all likelihood I won't be around to answer the replies.
