The first protests I remember seeing in Baton Rouge were after Haiphong Harbor was mined and people were afraid that we would have armed conflict with the Chinese. 1972.

I know there were lots of protests earlier, this is just the first one I remember taking part in. A candelight vigil.

I knew a lot of anti-war people earlier than that. The sister of one of my high school friends lived in California and when he visted her he came back with Mao's Little Red Book and started saying "don't forget to smash the state."

He's now a Ph.D. Economist, drives an SUV and votes Republican. Wanted to intern Middle Easterners after 9/11.
