Hadn't heard that. Did Ashcroft say if he investigates the Repubs he'll investigate the Dems as well?
This looks interesting. I should ask Mike9 and JohnM to go see it with me. :-)
GOV AIDE BACKS KERRY SATIRE
A NEW off-Broadway political parody backed by a longtime Republican operative looks to skewer John Kerry and all those who support him. "John F. Kerry: He's No JFK," billed as a "proudly partisan parody," is set to open a limited week-and-a-half run on Sept. 1 at the Kirk Theater on West 42nd Street.
Show insiders told The Post's Kenneth Lovett that it opens with a Sen. Hillary Clinton character reading from a Kerry tome before commenting that she, too, is familiar with "Faking History" — a reference to her "Living History" autobiography.
The play touches on Kerry's Yale days, his Vietnam record and anti-war activities, his days on Capitol Hill and his current presidential bid. It even has George Bush-bashing radio shock-jock Howard Stern asking Kerry whether his Heinz heiress spouse ever gets kinky with ketchup.
A representative for the show, Amanda Scarpone, said, "We thought the timing is perfect given the convention. There's a lot of Democrats on TV using laughter as an option, and Republicans are coming back and saying that's a good idea — so let's do the same thing."
While tickets are available online and through Telecharge, a press release for the show gleefully declares: "Anyone who can prove he has had safe sexual relations with the governor of the State of New Jersey, or his lover, will be admitted free."
The satire is the work of a top campaign aide to Gov. Pataki who was once investigated in the course of a contributions-for-parole case. Patrick Donohue, longtime director of Pataki's campaign finance team, is billed as the producer and co-writer.
Donohue, the head of DOT Productions, was investigated by the federal government as part of a look into whether certain paroles were promised in exchange for contributions during Pataki's 1994 campaign.
During the 2000 trial of another Pataki fundraiser, Assistant U.S. Attorney Margaret Giordano said Donohue was involved in the effort. But no charges were ever brought against Donohue.
Scarpone would not comment on Donohue's ties to Pataki. She said the play is being funded by DOT Productions and is not receiving any type of contributions. |
