LBJ thought the war was still winnable. Without protesters, maybe he would have run again. Even if he didn't, or didn't win, you think Nixon would have been a dove? No.
So, the war goes on, with leaders who continue to escalate the number of troops. 100,000 dead, 200,000 dead, who knows when it would have stopped? And, would LBJ or Nixon have been the one to stop it on their own, without protests at home?
