I think it has gotten to the point where credibility is an issue for Bush. Unfortunately, I think he burned too many bridges. It may be that there are paths that Kerry could take, that Bush cannot, for political reasons.

I think that Kerry could go back to the UN and allies, and get them to take a real share of the burden, and get an international face on the troops. With Bush gone, we could start to stem some of the anger focused on him by the Iraqi people, who are sick of the violence and just want a normal life.

Withdrawing troops and replacing them with international troops removes a rallying point for the insurgents. If they believe they have won, and thrown out the 'invader', then they can get back to the job of reconstructing their country. Egg on our face? Sure, but, as in Vietnam, sometimes you have to...with all the mistakes we made, it's only appropriate for us to do so.
