Thanks for your post. It is a "keeper" and I have e-mailed it to my friends in Asia.

The following account is not intended to knock the "Self-Esteem" thing as practiced in schools today: this includes, amongst other things, minimal discipline, setting minimal standards and ensuring that students feel good about themselves and enjoy feelings of success after each and every test or task.

It was found after an international math test:

A typical Asian student (in Asia) was asked, "How did you do in the test?" His reply was, "I am not sure. I guess I did well enough to pass. You see, the test was very tough."

To the same question a typical American student (in America) replied, "Boy O Boy! I aced the paper! The test was very easy! Before the test, I made a bet with my parents and I have won......"

But when the test results were released, it was found that, whereas the Asian student got an A, the American student got a C.

Lots of folks in America denounce the Self-Esteem thing as total garbage. Yet the schools continue to uphold it. Go figure!
